Controversial Graduation Speech
My sister sent me an interesting link today from Boston.com. A local high school teacher was the commencement speaker at the graduation exercises for Wellesley High School. His message? "You're not that special... everyone is." Apparently, it created some controversy, but I've got to be honest, I really liked the speech. We live in an era where everyone is a winner, from youth rec leagues on up. I believe we are doing children (students) a disservice when we coddle them because we are giving them a false sense of accomplishment. Mr. McCullough told the graduates exactly what they needed to hear, and for that I commend him. Read the text of the speech for yourself, and let me know what you think!
